Loren Cordain
Class of 1968
What I've done since high school:
1968-72 attended UNR and worked summers on USFS and BLM fire crews
1972-74: Attended optometry school at Pacific Univ and earned BS in Healthl Sciences
1974-1991 served as summertime lifeguard and head lifeguard at Sand Harbor State Park
1976-78: Earned MS at UNR in Phys ED and was assistant coach of UNR's national championship women's swim team
1978-1981: Attended the University of Utah and earned a Ph.D. in Health Sciences.
1981- present. Professor, Colorado State University, Past Director of Graduate Studies: Human Peformance Laboratory; Outstanding Teacher Award, Outstanding Researcher Award, Induction into UNR Sports Hall of Fame 1991; College Scholarly Execellence Award; Denham Harmon National Medical Research Association Award
1990: Married Lorrie Small, a Manogue graduate and have three sons (Kyle 20, Kevin 18, and Kenny 14)
2002: Wrote the national best selling diet book, The Paleo Diet
2005: Co-authored the Paleo Diet for Athletes with US Olympic Triathlete coach, Joe Friel
2010: Revised "The Paleo Diet" and wrote, "The Paleo Diet Cookbook" and both books still top the best selling lists, as The Paleo Diet concept has become a household word and known nationally.
2012: Wrote "The Paleo Answer" and am generally recognized internationally as the founder of the Paleo Diet movement.
1981- present: mentored more than 100 MS and Ph.D. students and in addition to my 5 popular books have authored more than 100 scientific papers and lecture extensively in the US and internationally on the Paleo Diet concept. My lecture tours and future speaking engagements can be found 2000-2010: Research from my group for the first time worldwide identified diet as a cause of both acne and myopia. As I approach the "swan song" of my career, we are nearing completion of a universal dietary mechanism underlying virtually all autoimmune disease
1981- present: My research has been covered by the world press extensively over the past decade and has appeared in the NY Times, The Wall Street Journal, and most major magazines and newspapers on the planet. I have appeared on Dateline NBC, National Public Radio and many morning TV shows internationally and locally. My books have been translated into ~15 languages worldwide.
