| About Me | As with some, I graduated from high school with not a clear path to my future. Tried computers at Delta JC. No connection. Close family friend Jim Woodrow got me into coaching basketball with Bethlehem high school youth. We had some very special teams and I was hooked, which was a bit unusual because I didn't play high school basketball. So many special people I coached on those teams who mean the world to me. Returned to Delta to study Education. Even was a member of the basketball team one year. Probably due to my spending one summer playing down at Jehoshaphat courts almost daily with my buddy George Kubiak. Much of my free time in those days was spent with my close friends Tim Leahy and Ron Dressler. And John Schultz who became known affectionately as my bodyguard. Got my degree in Education from Central Michigan. Was a assistant coach at old St. Mary's with my friend Norwaine Reed, and coached 8th grade and Freshman at Carrollton. Got married, which didn't last, but have a forever strong relationship with my stepson Jim. Got a teaching and head basketball coaching position at Sandusky High School in the Thumb. My goal was to maybe spend a couple of years there and get back to the city. But still there. Taught high school and elementary there for 30 years. Was head basketball coach for 19 years. Had the most wins in history and highest winning % when I stopped coaching. Also was tennis coach for 19 and I now on my second stint as golf coach where I am also the winningest coach in school history. Got remarried in 1981 to wife of 40 years. Have no idea why she has kept me. She taught elementary school and ended up a elementary principal. Have two children, My daughter Julie was born on February 26, 1982. Interesting story is that she was born the morning of the day my basketball team won our first League championship. Quite a day. She went on to becoming a 1st team All-State basketball player leading Sandusky to our only appearance in the state Class C title game. Also played on my tennis team. Played 2 successful years of Division II college hoops in W. Virginia before knee injuries ended her career. She now lives in Loganville, Georgia with her husband Desmond and our Triplets. In 1984 my son Paul came along. He enjoyed all different sports growing up. Won Sandusky's Senior athlete award excelling in basketball and golf. Also played baseball. Played on my tennis team as a freshman. I was his golf coach in high school. Played 2 years of JC golf. One of my greatest enjoyments in life is playing golf with him. He is married and lives in Allenton, Michigan with wife Sherrie and daughter Avril. In retirement I spend as time as possible with my family, especially grandchildren. Grandson Dylan are best friends for life and golf partners. I substitute teach for Sandusky when I'm around. I am still coaching golf, at least for a couple of years. Help with the tennis program and occasionally basketball, though I'm usually south. Don't want too many commitments, because when i get an itch, I like to scratch it. My greatest efforts are centered around becoming stronger in my Faith and being where its warm weather. One of the biggest events of my retirement so far, was our 50 class reunion. Was so special to see people I have not seen in years and of course to be with those I have had a strong relationship with over the years, especially. ...(read more) |
