1969 class reunion

Please let me know if there are any plans for a 50th year reunion for the class of 1969? I haven't lived in Birmingham since 1980 and I haven't heard anything about our class reunion. I would love to reconnect with my Pacesetters.

Good news

Hello Pacesetters, it was quite amazing to return to Birmingham and see fellow classmates. To see how far we've all come in the last 40 years. For Juanita and I, to have left this state and returned 40 years later and see the goodness of God, on the lives of our fellow alumni! Taking time to catch up and be in remembrance of those Pacesetters, who have taken that step to glory. We will always miss them, yet they are in a much better place. Their journey, just as ours, should one day come to a close. There's an amazing opportunity to celebrate their lives and legacies, including those of our own and the children of this Pacesetter Nation! We, Juanita and I, would like to start this off! For the first 10 kids of Hayes, who achieve 100, for the first semester. We will give each child $50! This is not about the money, but encouragement that hard work pays off. If we take this philosophy with each child, think of what it teaches. As a Pacesetter, we challenge all Pacesetters to adopt some sort of investment in the future of our kids. Our legacy is attached to our kids and greater than than...Jesus runs to the worn, weary, and the weak! Our kids need us and we need our kids! So, let's get back to the basics and bring our kids back to the fold. We can and should do this. Think of our parents, grandparents, and their parents. They sacrificed a lot for our lives, freedom, and education! Let's step up to the plate. Agape

Good News

I'll get it started. My name is Michael D. Goree, wife Juanita Monroe Goree, ( both class of '78). We married Jan 12, 1980. We have 2 children, Michael and Juanisha. We have traveled the world living in Europe and seeing all this world has to offer, even in Iceland. This has been an amazing journey! In 1985, while living in Germany. I was diagnosed with Cancer, at the ripe age of 25. My wife and son had recently arrived in Germany when this happened. Doctors were at a loss for words back then. Here I am with a large knot (4.5" x 4.5"), on the side of my neck. They had no idea what to do, but decided to do "exploratory surgery" on me. I said, if you don't know what you're cutting for, then if it's God's will. I will perish here first, before you just cut me open. So they wanted to ship me to Walter Reed Army Hospital in D.C. They're plans were to leave my wife and son in Germany. No way, they were my responsibility. So, they sent me to the hallway to wait while they discussed their options. (Here's the shout) While in the hallway, there came a man full of luggage walking by. He passed by me and then backed up. He said, can I touch that? Sure, there's a bunch of doctors in that room who already have. (Good news) He said, my name is Dr. Montgomery, I just arrived from the states and Walter Reed Army hospital and I know what that is! Let me go in that room and I'll be back. That was almost 33 complete years ago, I have been in stage 4. Stage 4, a total of 4 times and I'm still here! There's things beyond the natural realm that's available to all of us through Christ Jesus. It was not because of anything I earned, but due to the grace and mercy of Jesus. Transformation, can only happen through the Holy Spirit! Power in the Kingdom isn't given to the ones with the most ability, but to those who are AVAILABLE to Him. He's just waiting on you. So when all seems lost and you need a friend, call Him. Raise your hands and with a pure heart, say I surrender! You will never be the same and then you'll share the Good News, just as I do! Proud, Prepared, Productive. Let's set the pace; Pacesetters!

Good News

It is not my intent to alienate anyone, to disparage, or offend. My desire is to share the good news, along with an opportunity to see how you too will want to share your good news. Just maybe, we can all begun to make a change, in our lives, This may encourage you to review what you've seen, and done since leaving C.W. Hayes. "Proud, Prepared, and Productive".It is my hope that you too, realize how far you've come.Something powerful is happening in the undercurrent of the body of Christ. God is beginning to tell some, to tell the majority to get back to what it means to walk out a Christ like life. It is my hope that we can share the good news of our lives. The very fact that we are alive, signifies Jesus lives. I am so overjoyed to be here and my praise is for Him! So C.W. Hayes, let's share our good news!!! Everybody's got a story and let's change the world one story at a time. This in the atmosphere at a time such as we are in now. Our parents seen witnessed this time in history before and their parents did too. Let's shift the atmosphere with stories of the good news and then watch the shifting of the atmosphere. The time now represents a test. This sets in motion your testimony. So come on Pacesetters,

Alumni Health Fair

August 19, 2008

Hello Pacesetters,

The Health Fair is our next event on the Activities Calendar. It will be this Saturday, August 23 during the Annual East Avondale FUN DAY from 1-5 p.m. We will be set up in the Fellowship Hall of the New Bethel Baptist Church, located at 222 47th Street South in East Avondale. The FUN DAY activities will be going on across the street.

Plans have been made to have information there from the American Cancer Society, Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation, the Heart Association, Health Dept, the Crisis Center and Aids of Alabama.

A clinical nurse from Cooper Green Hospital will be there to do Health screenings to check the Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar of our guests.

We need your help to help man some of the tables. We will serve cups of diced watermelon for a repass. Other FUN DAY food will be served throughout the afternoon in the park.

The Hayes Alumni will have a table with flyers about the Christmas Dance which is to be held on December 5. You will also be able to sign up to be on the Telephone Tree Committee to help us communicate with other Pacesetters.

If you can donate a portion of your time and / or a watermelon, please call me at 205-592-4436 to let me know.

You and your family are invited to come out and have FUN and learn about your good health. This is not a fundraiser, we are just providing
