PETE TINGSTROM

Class of 1984

Lieutenant Colonel Peter Brian Tingstrom was born at Fort Bragg, NC on 20 August 1966, but was mostly raised in Carlsbad, California. In 1985 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman (11B) with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Special Forces Weapons Sergeant (18B) with the 12th Special Forces Group at Fort Lewis, Washington, and eventually attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On completion of his enlisted service, he decided to further his education and accept a ROTC scholarship at Washington State University where he graduated Cum Laude and Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. In May 1994, he re-entered active duty at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he completed the Aviation Officer Basic Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Scout Platoon Leaders Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and the OH-58D(I) Advanced Qualification Course.

In October 1995, LTC Tingstrom was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion S-1 with the 1st Battalion (Attack), 82d Aviation Regiment, 82d Airborne Division. In July 1998, he attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by the Combined Arms Services Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

In March 1999, LTC Tingstrom was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado. He initially served as the assistant S-3 before serving as the Squadron S-4. As the Squadron S-4, he deployed the Squadron to Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Rucker, Alabama, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and multiple NTC and Pinon Canyon rotations. He took command of Pegasus Troop in December of 2000. He deployed his troop to the National Training Center and multiple field training exercises.

In April 2002, LTC Tingstrom assessed and was selected to serve in a Special Mission Unit, where he served as the Deputy Operations Officer and Executive Officer. During this period he completed the UH-60 Advanced Qualification Course, various other aircraft qualifications, and did numerous deployments in support of the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

In July 2006, LTC Tingstrom attended the Naval College of Command and Staff at the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he earned his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.

In July 2007, LTC Tingstrom moved back to Fort Bragg where he first served as a Special Operations Aviation Plans Officer, graduated from the Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and completed an in-house USASOC CASA 212 aircraft qualification. In 2008 he served as the Chief of Operations for the Special Operations Aviation Directorate at U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).

In June 2010, LTC Tingstrom assessed and was selected to serve as the Air Operations officer for 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta (DELTA FORCE). He deployed again on numerous short combat tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan.



In June 2012, LTC Tingstrom was selected to serve as the Deputy Special Operations Liaison Element (SOLE) Director at Special Operations Command – Pacific (SOCPAC), Camp Smith, Hawaii. In January 2013, he was hand picked to deploy once again, this time to serve as the Chief of Staff for the Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines (JSOTF-P) in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM – Philippines (OEF-P). In September 2013, the SOCPAC Commander assigned him to be the South East Asia Regional Engagements Branch Chief in the J3 Directorate.

LTC Tingstrom’s military education includes: Infantry Basic and AIT, Jungle Warfare Course, Mountain Warfare Course, Basic Airborne Course, Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Ranger School, Air Assault School, Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC -Weapons Sergeant), Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC - Sniper School), Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (BNCOC), NBC Defense Course, Aviation Officer Basic Course (AOBC), Initial Entry Rotary-Wing (IERW) Course (Flight School), OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Aircraft Qualification Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course (SPLC), Air Movement Officer Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course (AOAC), Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3), Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) Course, AH and MH-6 Aircraft Qualification Courses, UH-60 Aircraft Qualification Course, Operational Control Element (OCE) Course, Naval College of Command and Staff, Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course (C-12), and the CASA 212 Aircraft Qualification Course, and multiple Personnel Recovery Courses. LTC Tingstrom is a Pilot-In-Command with over 2,500 flying hours, over half are under Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

LTC Tingstrom’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with four Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Philippine Civic Action Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral two device), the Army Service Ribbon, and the NATO Service Medal. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, the Army Master Aviator Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, Royal Netherlands, German (Silver), Australian, Canadian, Thailand, Polish, Pakistani, Irish, Ukrainian, and Uruguayan Parachutist Wings, Air-Assault Badge, Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab, and the President Unit Citation (2nd award).

LTC Tingstrom is the son of Raymond and Ellie Tingstrom who currently reside in Colorado Springs, CO. He is married to the former Melody Renee Brooks of Farmersville, Texas and has a 14 year old daughter, Sarah Nicole.
