About Me For a person who had never been out of California before I graduated and could be described as an introvert, I have done quite a bit. I began my career as a Public Health Nurse for Agnews State Hospital. My husband was transferred to Colorado and a 8 months later to Salt Lake City. In worded as a staff public health nurse in both places and then as a Public Health Nursing Supervisor in Salt Lake City. I competed a masterd degree and was recruited to teach at BYU even though I am not LDS., While at BYU I completed my Doctorate in Transcultural Nursing focusing on American Indians. I taught public health nursing, health policiy, community assessment, home health nursing and transcultural nursing during which students and I lived for 2 weeks on the Ute or Navajo Reservations. I moved to Texas and taught at The University of Texas at Austn; After 19 years total in academe, I decided to return to service and began a somewhat different career focus - Emergency Management at the Texas Department of State Health Services during which I worked Incident Command for hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Dolly, Gustav, and Ike and also wore the hat of Pandemic Influenza Coordinator responding to the first wave of 2009 H1N1; During my time in Texas I divorced and subsequently married a Texan who was transfetted to to Utah I was offered a position at the Salt Lake Valley Health Department as Panflu Coordinator and Lead for Regional Healthcare Preparedness. As soon as I arrived, I was appointed Operations Section Director for the 2nd waive of panflu. I have travelled to Nicaraga to evaluate the healthcare delivery system.
