Class of 1955
Navy Reserves, 8 Years
I joined the Naval Reserve before I graduated and went on active duty for two years starting in September, 1955 after I had graduated. I served aboard the USS Granville S. Hall, YAG-40 whose mission was to gather radioactive fallout from nuclear detonations in the Pacific Proving Grounds at Eniwetok, Marshall Islands. The ship was run remotely through the fallout and used to test decontamination procedures as to their effectiveness. I participated in Operation Redwing, during 1956. I served the remaining six years in the Naval Reserve.
