Zeke's departure and reunion
It's been a year since I posted anything and there have been many changes. We lost Zeke but gained a new perspective on the value of relationships and selfless service. My gratitude and respect goes out to everyone that helped with encouragement and fundraising efforts during his years-long battle. Zeke had a solid relationship with the Lord, which makes it much easier to accept his departure and eventual reunion. Speaking of reunions...our first graduating class of 1975 will hold its 50th reunion this summer! I look forward to attempting recognition of my well seasoned classmates! See you in September!

Team Zeke
One of Capital High school's own, freshman Zeke Copeland is in Seattle fighting for his life. And how do the students and faculty respond? Well, they are passing the hat for Zeke and our family at several basketball games being played the week ending February 24, 2024! They have also decided to donate their portion of the 50-50 drawings! I can't tell you how much we all appreciate the outpouring of love and generosity from our Bruin family! Thank you! Grandpa Mike Copeland, class of 1975. GO BRU!!!

Generational tradition
I am amazed at how fast time has flown by!
I guess the saying that life is like a roll of toilet paper is true. The closer you get to the end, the quicker it goes.
I have another grandson walking through the Capital hallways and donning the school colors as a student athlete. It's easy to get emotional when I watch him compete and remember "the days"!
I never thought that it would come to this, but I am thankful that our legacy will live on and our children's children will one day talk about the short roll.
Casey remember,
HIT, HUSTLE, HEART!
Grampa is watching.
Respect rally
Another great reason to celebrate YOUR Capital High Bruins! Other-centeredness always wins out over self-centeredness and OUR Capital High family is forging a new culture of treating others the way that we'd like to be treated. I'm proud to be a Bruin!
Jim Opitz retirement
Congratulations Jim! 47 years of positive influence on countless students who impact entire communities. Job well done good and faithful servant! Enjoy your next chapter.

Toilet paper and life...
I was dropping two of my grandkids at Capital High the other morning (that's right, GRANDKIDS), when I realized that I graduated 43 years ago this spring. I remember this time of year and thinking that spring couldn't get here soon enough. Well, that was 42 springs ago and I'm not sure where they all went. I guess the old saying is true, "life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end the quicker it goes." Live life to the fullest but use the paper sparingly.

Steve Frankino
Bruination lost another son on June 29th, 2017. Steve was very good at whatever he put his hand to, but I will miss most his uncanny talent for friendship. Steve's homegoing has impacted hundreds of people who will do well to remember that our loss is heaven's gain. See you again Steve...

Loss of a Bruin
The first graduating class of 1975 lost a cherished alumnus on February 19, 2014. Anyone who knew Kelly Kuntz has a story to tell that would make a grown man chuckle or blush! Our deepest sympathies go out to Kelly's family, he is greatly missed. Call someone that you haven't seen in a while, I think he would like that. Sotor

Bruin Basketball
I'm very proud of this year's b-ball accomplishments. I remember our first year as a four year highschool ( we had only freshmen through juniors) and the fact that if we lost by less than 20 points it felt like a victory. Some of the guys that helped keep it close were Brad Sommers, Jay Daly, Jack McMahon, Kelly Kuntz, Ray "FROM THE BASELINE" Berg, and Jay Andrew. What a special group and a special time. Well done this year BRU!!!
Congratulations!
Congrats to our Bruin football team for another state title. This year's team had a lot of talent that we will be following at the next level for years to come. Thanks for the great season!

Bruins after another title
It's been almost a year since I posted last, but work and 11 grandkids keep a guy hopping. Our Bruins are back in the post season today against a Billings Senior team that took one away from us in week 9. If you can't make the game, tune in on the radio and cheer the Bru-crew on to another title try.

Tough loss
Our Bruin's win streak and run for 4th consecutive state championship came to an end Friday night. This team has much to be proud of and our school has the character to overcome the loss. Move forward history-makers, well done!

HOW 'BOUT THEM BRUINS!?
28 in a row is almost unthinkable, but to have a coach selected for "Team USA"...Great job Bruin machine. Good luck coach Murphy.
Can anyone name the coach that was instrumental in choosing the school colors - BROWN & gold - to make it harder for opposing defenses to tell who was carrying the ball? (He's still involved in Bruin ball)

27 in a row!
What an amazing accomplishment.Your 2009 Bruin football team has just surpassed the state record for consecutive wins (Also set by Capital). Did you know that we were almost known as the Wapiti?
Helena sports hall of fame
You might have heard that your 1996 Bruin football team was inducted into the Helena sports hall of fame. Did you realize that many of our alumni have been similarly honored? Take some time and visit the website, chances are you will recognize some names.
Mike Copeland, Class of '75
Bruins Honored
The 1996 Bruin football team will be honored by being inducted into the Helena Hall of Fame for their incredible undefeated journey to, and claim of, the state title. Your Capital Bruins team went undefeated from the time they were "Small Fry" and we have to wonder if that will ever be accomplished again.
GO BRU,
Mike & JoAnn Copeland
