Class of 1978
While at Berkeley, Doyle focused on academics. He also found time to become involved with the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity and was a member of their executive leadership group while enrolled at Cal. Doyle gained his degree and ultimately decided to become a High School teacher.
In the 80's, Doyle accepted a position as a Math teacher at Piedmont High School and it is as a High School teacher and coach that Doyle made a huge impact on student athletes there. In a 20+ year coaching career, Doyle coached the Piedmont HS Cross Country squads to 7 Top 5 State team finishes on the Boys side and 5 Top Five State team finishes on the Girls side. This includes 9 individual Boys Top 10 state finishers and 2 individual Girls Top 10 state finishers. In 2005, Doyle coached the Piedmont HS Boys Cross Country team to the schools only Boys sports State Championship in their 90 year history. During his coaching career, Doyle also led Piedmont to 8 Boys and 3 Girls NCS MOC First place finishes. On the Boys side, from 1997 to 2008, Piedmont finished in the top 5 in NCS each season but one. On the Girls side during this same time, the results were equally as impressive, finishing each year in the top 5 in NCS but one.
In 2009, Doyle retired from coaching, and is now considered a legend in the State Cross Country and Track communities. He remains a teacher at Piedmont High School continuing fo focus on the academic success of the students there.
