James Everett Johnston, commonly known as Jimmy Johnston, was a notable American football player who was born on April 16, 1917, in Parma, Idaho. A versatile player, he primarily took on the roles of a defensive back, end, and running back during his career.

Johnston's sporting journey started at Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Idaho, where he played high school football. He later attended and played college football at the University of Washington in Seattle.

His professional football journey began when he was selected by the Washington Redskins in the 10th round of the 1939 NFL Draft as the 88th overall pick. He started his professional career with the Redskins, playing for them from 1939 to 1940. His career continued with the Chicago Cardinals, where he played in 1946.

Throughout his career in the National Football League (NFL), he racked up some noteworthy statistics. Johnston had a total of 882 offensive yards, made 2 interceptions, and scored 8 touchdowns.

Later in life, he settled in Caldwell, Idaho, where he passed away at the age of 56 on November 27, 1973.
