Robert Sippel
Class of 1978
Air Force, 20+ Years
Graduated from Texas A&M University 1983 and entered the Air Force in 1984. Commissioned 1985. Served as an officer and aviator in B-52 bombers, E-3 AWACS, and T-43 Trainers. Flew B-52 combat missions over Iraq for Operation Desert Storm and E-3 AWACS missions supporting Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch, and Provide Comfort. Flew counterdrug missions supporting the war on drugs from the United States and Panama. Completed career as the Chief of Instructor Training for the Joint Navy and Air Force navigator/NFO training program.
Retired, retrained in emergency medicine and currently employed by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas as a professor in the Emergency Health Science department. One of the primary instructors for the San Antonio Fire Department's paramedic training and a qualified field training officer for the EMS division of the San Antonio Fire Department.

Overview of Chaplain Scott Thompson’s Army assignments. As 1LT, served in the 63rd Regional Support Command (Army Reserve unit in Southern California) Active Duty assignments as a CPT include the 3-62 Air Defense Artillery Battalion and the 4-31 Infantry Battalion at Fort Drum, NY (2000 – 2002); the 3-7 Field Artillery Battalion at Schofield Barracks, HI (2002 – 2005); the Captains Career Course (2006); the 143d Ordnance Battalion at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD (2006 – 2008); and the 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion at Camp Humphreys, ROK (2008).
Active-duty assignments as a MAJ include the 210 Fires Brigade at Camp Casey, ROK (2008 – 2009); CPE Resident at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, DC (2009 – 2010); 14th Combat Support Hospital at Fort Benning, GA. (2010 – 2011); 780th MI BDE at Fort Meade, MD, (2011 – 2012); Chaplain Resource Manager at USAG Fort Meade, MD (2012 - 2014), Chaplain Clinician at TRIPLER Army Medical Center, HI (2014 – 2016), and Ops Chaplain for the 502 FSG at Fort Sam Houston, TX (2016-2020).
Chaplain Thompson’s military schooling includes the Chaplain Officer Basic Course, the Combat Medical Ministry Course at BAMC, the Chaplain Captain’s Career Course, the Chaplain Major’s Course, the CPE Residency Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), and ILE (Command and General Staff College). Deployment history includes two deployments to Afghanistan (Bagram in 2002) and Kandahar (April 2004 – April 2005) and one unaccompanied tour to the ROK (June 2008 – May 2009).
His military decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal - two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal - three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal - two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Served in the United States Army for 20.5 years including time with the Army Reserve.
