| About Me | One month to the day following graduation, I joined the Army with my long time friend, Joel Adams. We went to basic training at Fort Ord. Following eight weeks of basic, we were both assigned to the Air Defense Command in Los Angeles. I was assigned to a Nike Ajax anti missile site in Malibu. Joel was assigned to a similar site in Garden Grove. After eight months on formal and on the job training in ordinance and missiles, I volunteered for deployment to Germany, where I spent the next twenty eight months in various capacities in Nike Hercules and Nike Hawk units. This was a very positive experience. I was beginning to appreciate learning and was able to travel throughout much of Europe. After returning from the Army in April 1961 and not yet twenty one years of age, I worked at China Lake. For one and a half years, I worked at G Range as an Ordinanceman. Although this was a good job, I found the hurry up and wait situation, too much like my Army experience. I simply was not sufficiently challenged. Once again, Joel and I decided to go back to school, where we enrollled at Bakersfield Junior College. Before graduating, I ran out of money and decided to find employment in Bakersfield, finishing my undergraduate studies mostly at night, but the last year, full time at San Jose State University, where I obtained my BS Degree in Business Administration. I was hired by Pacific Telephone as a management trainee. This was the beginning of thirty years on employment in the telecommunications industry, where I worked in many different facets of the business. Initially I worked in Customer Service, Sales, Sales Management, Marketing, Customer Service Management, Operations Management and ultimately COO for a public long distance company. Geographically, I migrated from Bakersfield to Santa Cruz, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Cupertino, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Santa Monica, where I have resided for the past twenty five years - longer than any other place of residence. Upon retiring from the telecommunications industry, I utilized my Real Estate Brokers license to actively participate in the mortgage business. This I have been doing for the past seven years.
