Air Force, 20+ Years

I have had a wonderful and exciting career in the Air Force. Who would have thought 20 years would pass so quickly. I entered the military in February of 1989 as a Crew Chief (aircraft mechanic) on A-10A Warthogs, and was assigned to Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ! In February of 1991 I received permanant change of station (PCS) orders to RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk, England. I had not been in Europe long when I deployed to Dessert Storm in early 1991. Upon my return to England I was notified that my base had been scheduled to close and I would be returning state-side, so in July of 1992 I returned for another tour at Davis-Monthan and was selected to be part of the 12th Air Force A-10 Demonstration Team (sort of like a mini Thunder Bird outfit) where I traveled all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico performing at air shows. After 6 years of working on aircraft, I decided I would rather fly on them than fix them, so I applied to be a Flight Attendant for VIP airlift and was accepted in the sumer of 1995. My new position brought me to our nation's capital, where my family and I still live. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world many times over and with very interesting people such as Presidents, Vice Presidents, First Ladies, Cabinet Members, Foreign Heads-of-State and Congressional Delegations, not to mention several Humanitarian missions. I had a wonderful time, and embarked on many adventures in my thirteen years as a Flight Attendant. A portion of my time as a Flight Attendant was spent in the District of Columbia Air National Guard. I made a latteral move, job wise, from active duty Air Force to active duty Air National Guard in June of 2002. As mentioned before, I came to the Guard as a Flight attendant, but served my final year and 3 months as the District of Columbia Air National Guard Commanding General's Executive Administrative Assistant. This position brought new challenges and adventures of its own. I really have enjoyed my twenty year career in the Air Force. I seized every available opportunity for travel and education. In the course of the past twenty years I have received an AAS in Aviation Operations and a BS in Management. Although my Air Force career will formally come to a close on the 31st of May, 2009 I will continue service to my country working in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. Yet another adventure, and the beginning of the next chapter in my life.
