Graduation Year Class of 1970
Date of Passing Jan 25, 2003
About Born: Sept. 23, 1976
Ft. Stewart Georgia, Liberty County
Father: SSGT Donald E. Beard
Mother: Kay Ann Metzger Beard
Stacey was born in repiratory distress full term child at 5 lbs. 6 oz. She was a severe asthmatic nearly dying 5 times from pneumonia during her life. Her dad and I divorced in 1986 when Stacey was 9. She loved soccer and we found an asthmatic soccer coach who brought her along carefully and she played JV soccer her sophomore and Jr high school years and Varsity her senior year. Never had an attack and was off all meds by her senior year. 6 months after soccer season ended, she was back on all meds. Graduated Colonial High School, Orlando 1995. Married Shawn Parisi Sept. 27, 1997. Stacey miscarried a child in 1999. Stacey nearly died in May 2000 from an asthma attack. She quit breathing in the ambulance. Was revived and survived with no brain damage but did suffer further lung damage and heart strain. Father-in-law, Joseph Parisi passed away July 10, 2002 - asthma, emphasema and COPD - died of massive heart attack in parking lot of Florida Hospital East in Orlando. At the time of Stacey's death she was Head baker at Panera on University Blvd in Orlando, a student at Valencia Community College studying for her AA in Culinary Arts.
Stacey and I supported the American Lung Association for years doing their Cure Asthma Walks. After Stacey passed, I became a spokesperson for the American Lung Association. I n Stacey's memory, I have set up a Childrens Asthma Camp Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 1333 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32804. At the time of her death her father, Don Beard was suffering from dementia and Alzheimers at the age of 60 after serving 23 years in the Army. He never really understood that his daughter had died. Don died in Sept 2006 (I think it was 2006)
at the VA Hospital in Cleveland placed there by his brothers. Every year I put together a team to walk in the American Lung Association "Walk for the Cure of Asthma" just as Stacey and I did for so many years. Stacey was a life long asthmatic. Her greatest wish was that everyone she knew would stop smoking. On Stacey's behalf and in her memory, if you smoke, please, please stop smoking. And support the Lung Association in the research to find a cure for Asthma. Almost 5,000 people die from Asthma attacks every year. Many are children. No more 26 year olds like Stacey should have to die from this disease. Remember, if you can't breathe, your brain cells die, your lung tissue dies, and your heart is damaged or dies. IF YOU CAN'T BREATHE, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.
