Married Laura L. Pyron on September 10, 1980. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, as a Combat Photographer. Richard worked for the State of Indiana, as a Heavy Equipment Operator and for the City of Indianapolis as a Planner retiring in 2006.
A car enthusiast and race fan, he had tickets to the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 and enjoyed cheering on Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan, Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart.
