| About Me | I departed for Marine Boot Camp at Parris Island four days after we graduated. I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps and retired as a GySgt, I served as a Mortarnman,Reconnaissance Marine, Arctic Warfare Instructor, Recruiter, Infantry Tactics Instructor and a Weapons Platoon Sergeant during the Gulf War. After I retired in 1996, I worked for a couple of years as a professional photographer and owned my own studio. I worked for five years as an Executive for the Boy Scouts and then transitioned to teaching. I have taught science in middle school and high school, science/math curriculum coach for Onslow County Schools. I then worked at NC State University as the Director of Educational Outreach for the Center for Marine Sciences and as an assistant adjunct professor. I finished my teaching career working at an alternative school for at risk youth where I taught science using hands on environmental learning. I am now retired and have a small business where I do woodcarving and laser cutting. I completed a BS in Liberal Arts from Regents College in NY and a MAEd. in Science Education from East Carolina University. In December of 2010, I completed a Doctor of Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am married Nancy Keenan from Canton Ma. (we met in Explorers during High School) in 1981. She retired from teaching and educational technology.We have two daughters Megan who recently received her MAEd in Technology Facilitation and works as the local middle school Art teacher and Erin who graduated from NC State with a BA in Bio-medical engineering and Western Carolina University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We live near the Beach in North Carolina near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. I am the president of a Rotary Club, Sea Scout Commodore and Division Staff Officer for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. I enjoy simple living, environmental activism, woodcarving, wildlife photography, gardening fishing, and camping.
