Sharon, who was a registered nurse, died at age 56 in Phoenix, Ariz.
She graduated from Indiana University nursing school in 1968. In 1988, she moved to Phoenix with her then-husband, F. Mark McWhirter, and worked as a public health nurse and later as an OR nurse at Phoenix Baptist Hospital.
Survivors included her daughter, Sarah; sister Nancy Southern of Mesa, Ariz., and brother Ben McCormick of Indianapolis.
