Bob was a leader in New Mexico's conservation and wilderness preservation movements for nearly three decades. He died March 1, 2002, of a brain aneurysm at age 55.
A native of Indianapolis, Langsenkamp and his wife, Sally Strong, moved in 1975 to Silver City, where he served as the Southwest representative for the Wilderness Society. He later worked for the New Mexico State Land Office for 14 years, retiring in 1996 as deputy state land commissioner.
Bob was a founder of the New Mexico Conservation Voters' Alliance and the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance. He also helped found and since 1997 directed operations of the Valle Grande Grass Bank, on Rowe Mesa southeast of Santa Fe. The grass bank provides ranchers with grazing space to give their range lands time to rehabilitate.
Survivors included his wife, two children and two brothers.
