Gary Davis '70 said:

Jack's family were old-time Rowaytonites who knew my parents and grandparents.
Even though we lived a stone's throw away we hardly knew each other as Jack was 5 years ahead of me in school.
But in the summer of 1971, following my freshman year of college, Jack and I spent every morning together.
Jack drove one of Charlie Bradford's garbage trucks with Lester Young and me riding on the rear end.
Jack was active in the fire department and knew a few tricks.
Our Monday run was in the lower part of Rowayton near the water and normally took us 2 truckloads.
On Monday 30 August a tropical storm flooded the beach roads.
As we worked Jack scooped floodwater into the hopper to make the trash pack better.
It was the only time we did that run in one load.
