About Me | Father first forever Need a Female Friend! Teacher of Photography and Adobe Products. Professional Photographer Graphic Designer Retired Cop - 28 yrs PROUD Conservative Fisherman Boating What conservatism means to me-- First and foremost is our Constitution is the law of the land and it's purpose was to LIMIT THE POWER OF GOVERNMENT. I am a fiscal and social conservative. I will tell you what that means to me. First off I was not always conservative. As a young man I was not and I grew into these beliefs and now they are my "core values". On the social side, I do not believe abortion is right. I understand both sides of the argument but I think that unless the life of the mother is at risk there are way too many alternatives to abortion than to use it as a "method of birth control". As a young man I actually took my friend to get an abortion and I wish I had no part of it now. I also believe that our Constitution clearly says that this should be a "States Right" to legislate, not the federal government. I also believe in fidelity to one's spouse or significant other, straight or gay. Someone once said that "if you will lie to your spouse you would lie to anyone"... That is one of the reasons that I did not and do not trust people like Bill Clinton. He was smart but he did not have character. When it comes to Character, I think that it matters a great deal. If one does not have character then he or she does not have my respect. A young man in high school was wise beyond his years and said it this way. Character is more important than reputation. Reputation is what others think of you, character is what you know about your own self and values. I also believe that welfare should be used only by those who really need it. I believe in a "safety net" provided by the government. But it should not be abused as it is today. I believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights as it was intended by our founding fathers, not as someone may like to interpret it to fit their own needs happens too often in the courts. I believe in small government. Government each day takes away more of our freedoms. For example some government legitimate functions are defense of our nation, treaties, printing currency and a few others. I could site hundreds of examples but to name a couple... A recent supreme court ruling gave the right to the government to use "emanate domain" to take property from private citizens at the "market value" so they could sell the property to a developer that would build something that would pay more taxes. The written intent of that law was only for it to be used for roads, or other things for the public good, it was never intended in that way. Also a recent supreme court decision upheld the 2nd amendment (thank god) by a 5-4 vote. What would you think if the first...(read more) |
