John DeLuca
Class of 1972
Mr. DeLuca's contribution to his profession are remarkable indeed. As a film Producer and Choreographer his movies have earned a total of 23 Academy Award nominations, winning 9. As a television Producer and Choreographer, he is a two-time Emmy Award winner.
Mr. DeLuca was the Supervising Choreographer and Second Unit Director of the Oscar winning best film of 2002, CHICAGO. For his work on this film he received an American Choreography Award. Mr. DeLuca served as Co-Producer and Choreographer on his next film, MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, which was nominated for 6 Oscars, and won him his second American Choreography Award. As a Producer of the movie musical, NINE, he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Film. For his most recent film, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, he served as Executive Producer which has received a People's Choice Award for Best Film of 2011 and is currently the 8th highest grossing film in history.
In television, Mr. DeLuca served as Producer and Choreographer for the NBC special event, TONY BENNETT AN AMERICAN CLASSIC, which went on to receive 7 Emmy awards, including two for Mr. DeLuca himself.
Mr. DeLuca began his career on Broadway as a performer where he was hand picked by Bob Fosse to star in his hit musical DANCIN'. He also performed in Michael Bennett's legendary production of A CHORUS LINE as well as the Tony Award winning musical THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. Mr. DeLuca turned to Direction and Choreography where he staged Liza Minnelli's triumphant return to Broadway in, MINNELLI ON MINNELLI and mounted the Broadway production of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. He has directed and choreographed National Tours and Regional productions across the country at venues such as: The NY Public Theatre, San Diego's Old Globe, California Musical Theatre, Pittsburgh Playhouse, etc.
Currently, he has a production deal with Disney and is producing the film version of Stephen Sondheim's musical INTO THE WOODS.
