Albert Francis Caldwell

Class of 1904

2nd Class survivor R.M.S. Titanic, along with his wife Sylvia Mae Harbaugh, and their 10 month old son Alden Gates. Father, William Elliott C. Presbyterian minister, and mother, Fannie Gates, born in KY. Verification: A Rare Titanic Family--the Caldwell family story of survival, 2012, by Julie Hedgepeth Williams, grandniece of Albert Francis, via his second marriage to Jennie Congleton. Graduation year could have been 1905. Attended Park College, outside of Kansas City, just over the Missouri state line, and was supposed to pay for the tuition by serving as a Presbyterian missionary to Bangkok, Thailand; a seven year obligation. After only one year, Sylvia's health deteriorated, forcing the family to begin making their way back to Biggsville, IL.
The presence of cholera in Naples, Italy, and Sylvia's tendency to seasickness, forced the family to seek passage on the maiden voyage of Titanic.
