After HS, John served in the U.S Army (Corporal) and Viet Nam. According to his brother Keith (BHS Class of 1969), John was discharged from the military on disability caused by Agent Orange and ultimately died from cancer. John is buried at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
