About	John was a starting forward and guard on the Varsity basketball team during all three of his years at Branham HS. After HS, John graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Radio and TV Broadcasting. He did the play-by-play for the San Jose Missions (formerly the Sacramento Solons), a professional AAA minor league baseball team that played in San Jose 1977-1981. John lived in San Francisco for some years and then moved to Fresno where he was employed by Fresh Del Monte Produce. He is the older brother of Pat Hughes, the play-by-play announcer of the Chicago Cubs. John passed away in Fresno of natural causes.
