Classmate Memories

Marcia Bohlen '61 said:

My dear wife, Marcia, died unexpectedly on August 20, 2025. This loss of my soul mate after twenty-two years together has caused me the greatest pain in my entire life. We had many great years together, traveling to Japan, China, India, Ireland, and volunteering together. Marcia was loved by many, at least four of whom call her “Mom”. She was always ready to help anyone in need, often giving substantial sums to families and others. She was capable, wise, loving and generous. I could not have found a better companion and partner. I miss her terribly.

Marcia Silha died on August 20, 2025; she was 82 years of age. Born on May 16, 1943, the youngest daughter of Joe and Dorothy Bohlen. Her older sister, Karen, who was born in February of 1939, preceded her in death. Joe, her son, resides near Bandera, Tx. She married Edward on April 12, 2003.

Marcia spent most of her early life in Boone from elementary school through Boone High School graduation in 1961. She graduated from the University of South Dakota (1961 -1965} in the field of education and earned MS degrees in counseling, administration, and special education at other universities while continuing to work. During her career at various junctures, she was a teacher, school principal, counselor, and school director. She worked in Iowa, North Carolina, Illinois, and Texas.

Throughout her life Marcia enjoyed hobbies such as dancing, sailing, racquetball, cooking and gardening. She volunteered at South Park Nursing Home, with Habitat for Humanity and as a docent at the Lady Byrd Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.

Those who wish to honor her memory may donate to the Greeley Hospice Center in Ames. Iowa, an organization that held a special place in her heart.
