About Me	Phyllis J. Baskin, a native of Atlanta, grew up on the northwest side of town. From an early age she realized that God, family and education were very important and the ingredients needed to meet life-long goals. She is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and received her post-secondary education from Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia where she received the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management. After graduation, Phyllis began her career in the field of healthcare. In her position with the Georgia Medical Care Foundation, the Medicare quality improvement organization for Georgia, she traveled throughout the state working to improve the quality of care provided to Medicare recipients, shared knowledge and best health care practices and worked to decrease the health care costs for all Americans. Through her extensive travel to hospitals, she was offered a position with Georgia Baptist Medical Center, currently Atlanta Medical Center. She was the first African-American to hold the position of Director of Health Information Management, at that institution. For over sixteen (16) years Phyllis worked with physicians to improve healthcare practices and to promote excellence in people and procedures. In 1996, surgery required Phyllis to slow down long enough to receive the unction from the Holy Spirit to move in a different direction. While worshipping at Ben Hill United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, there was a position posted in the Sunday bulletin which indicated a need for a Program Administrator. After the church conducted a thorough search for the position, Phyllis was offered the position in December 1996. This position was responsible for researching, developing, administering and evaluating programs in response to the identified needs of the church and the community. While in this position, the community outreach ministry expanded to serve persons who needed mental health counseling, help with temporary housing, clothing, food and financial assistance for housing and utilities. The programs continue to thrive and help the community today. After eight (8) years of service, Phyllis left Ben Hill UMC to assist her husband in the legal field. After a brief tenure in the legal profession, Phyllis became the Director of Administration at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, Georgia, for two (2) years and has now returned to Ben Hill United Methodist Church as Director of Operations and servant leader. She is currently studying at Emory University, School of Theology, to become a Certified Church Business Administrator. Phyllis loves the Lord, her family and serving her community.
