Rev Paul G Zimmer II
Class of 1964
Army, 2 Years
Basic training at Fort Ord, CA in 1967. AIT at Fort Ord Food Prep School in 1967. Was assigned to serve as Bakery Specialist Supervisor at the Fort Ord Reception Station from graduation at FOAIT and served there until medical discharge in August 1968.
I was supposed to spend time on Da Nang, but a medical issue while waiting to fly out of the Oakland Army Base resulted in reassignment to Fort Ord, with orders to under go further testing that led to medical hold, and eventual discharge. While waiting for discharge, I served as manager of the Officer's Mess Bakery at the Ord Reception Station.
I always felt badly that I couldn't serve in Nam like all my army buddies, but, God had other plans, and I had 15 solid months of service cooking pastry and bakery dishes for Officers and NCO's at the Ord Reception Station!
If anyone remembers me and wants to say hello, please drop me a note!
