Yesterday at 1pm, my Dad, George Casey died. He was a loved father, husband, grandfather, brother, friend, mentor and teacher.
Around 11:30am, his wife, daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter, cat and dog were all slowly drawn to gather around his bed where we began singing his favorite songs. We did this up until his last breath. We rubbed his head, his hands and although he was "non responsive" he shed tears and lifted his eyebrows at times. We sang him home. My dad has given us so many gifts and this last gift, the gift of dying...surrendering into unconditional love... it will live in us everyday. We are so grateful and proud of this family's love, of his life, of his path, of his love.
In the end there is only love.
May it carry us into each day.
May we all sing each other home.
