The BHS Class of 1974 40th Reunion will be held on the weekend of October 10 - 12. A block of rooms will be available at the Marriott Courtyard on Main Street for $99. At this time I do not know how many rooms are in that block. This is not a VT football weekend so there will be no problem finding a room in the area.
Friday night October 10: BHS Homecoming game at the new Blacksburg High School football field on Price's Fork Road. There is a catered tailgate event sponsored by the athletic foundation at BHS prior to the football game if you want to arrive early to gather with friends. We have identified a local retailer who may be able to provide BHS Indian gear to order online so that you can sport your Indian heritage at homecoming! We are checking on any particular donation needs that BHS has at this time so that we can explore giving the school a gift from the Class of 1974.
Saturday: There are a variety of activities that are in the planning stage. A picnic at the Hand in Hand Park off Giles Road and/or a picnic and hike to Cascades. All of this hinges on availability of a shelter at the park and the weather and the number of people interested in one activity over another. We are looking into scheduling a round of golf at the Blacksburg Country Club too. Alternatively, for those interested in other local activities, Chateau Morrisette's Annual Wine and Beach Music Festival is over in Floyd County from 11 am - 5 pm. The Craftsman Classic Arts & Crafts Festival is at the Roanoke Civic Center October 10 - 12 so you can go Christmas shopping if you like! If any other events are scheduled locally we will make you aware of them.
Saturday night: Reunion party at Blacksburg Country Club beginning at 7 pm. We will have a professional group photo taken at this event. Music will be provided by anyone with an iPhone or iPad with downloaded 60s/70s music (or whatever else ya'll want to listen to). This has worked well with past reunions to have the music piped in through the PA system. Having a DJ will add to the price of the reunion and was thought to be unnecessary.
Sunday: There are a number of places in the area where people can meet to have brunch on their own. If there is enough interest, we can try to reserve a banquet room at Preston's Restaurant at the Inn at Virginia Tech for people to gather and attend the buffet brunch. If not, then its an opportunity to have a more intimate smaller gathering with friends on your own.
Our next planning committee meeting is April 12th at 6pm in Cambria at Amelia's Restaurant. Following that meeting the information packet will be sent out to everyone. Between now and then we will be trying to get addresses and contact information for the remainder of the classmates that we have lost touch with.
At this time we do not have a grasp on how much the reunion will cost per person. If there is anyone who wants to attend the reunion and cannot afford the cost of the events that we have planned, please let me know because we can help with that.
So - - Look for information in the mail within the month after we meet on April 12th.
