Raised by television and film producer Aaron Spelling and Candy Spelling, Tori embarked on her acting career early, with the help of acting lessons from a coach hired by her father. Her first significant role was Donna Martin on the popular TV show Beverly Hills, 90210, which began in 1990 and was co-produced by her father's company, Spelling Television. This role, which she reprised in the show's 2019 spin-off, BH90210, earned her nominations for two Young Artist Awards.

Over her career, Spelling starred in several television films, such as "A Friend to Die For" (1994), "A Carol Christmas" (2003), and "The Mistle-Tones" (2012).
