About Me | " Feb. 2012 Although it has been nearly 49 years since high school, I'm now half again as large, bearded, long haired, wear glasses and going deaf but, other than that, I'Ã?Â?m well. I've lived in Maine ever since I got out of the Navy, were I was stationed in Brunswick, ME. I married a local girl (Janice) in April of 1968 and after 2 years and 8 months, we moved into this house (that's 41 years, I don't like to move). We have a son Jason, who was born in May of 70 and a daughter Jodi, born Dec. 72. Jason is not married and lives with me. Jodi has been married for 10 years this May and has a son Cam, who will be 7 this year. They have a daughter named Taylor, who is 2 yrs 4 months old. They live in a house in the next city from me (Scarborough), which is only 7.5 miles away from me. I lost Janice in July of 2010, to melanoma, after 42 yrs and to add insult to heart'Ã?Â?ache, she was cremated on my birthday. It hurts so much whenever I think about her and I have tears right now just writing about it. My family (children and siblings) were really worried about me for a long time after and tried to keep involved with their lives so they could monitor my psyche. I talk to Jodi every day and one time I told her about my friendship with Wanye Turner and how much he and his parents helped mold my adolescence. I told her how without their acceptance of me; I might have hung out with some of the wrong kids on my street and been in trouble the rest of my life. Unbeknownst to me, Jodi had Jason (he'Ã?Â?s very good with computers) track down where Wayne was now living. After a few months, they finally located him, she wrote him a long letter (he was my Best Man at our wedding) and told about Jan and the state I was in emotionally. He called, a year ago this month, and invited me to stay with him and his wife for a few days. Turns out that he moved to Liberty, Maine to the place his parents owned and use to take me sometimes for weekends when we were kids. I'm retired full time and just hang around the house with the dog. The last 10 years or so, I've been doing a lot of reading and it got even worst once I received a Kindle DX for my 65th birthday. I visit Wayne once every 9 to 12 weeks and make trips to Beverly and Arlington to visit my sisters and brother from time to time. Other than that, I'm a recluse. While in the Navy, I acquired the nickname Ã?Â?Reggie (Regan became Reg that led to Reggie) so, for the last forty seven years that what I'Ã?Â?ve been known by, just here in Maine. I'm known as "Starchie," only to the people I went to school with and Arthur to all my relatives in Mass.. Well that is a brief (but long for me, as I'm not one for writing) history of basically my family life. July 20, 2019 Well, it has been many years since I signed on (seven years by the looks of it) and made my original post. So, here is a brief summary of what has transpired in the meantime. Basically, my personal life just goes on relatively unchanged, since my Janice passed away nine years ago, due to the fact that I am mostly a recluse, no social life whatsoever. So, therefore, no female friends for companionship, which means I never remarried. A few health problems, but nothing life threatening. In January of 2016, I had my right hip replaced, so that is essentially not an issue any longer. Then last year I had both cataract and glaucoma operations on each eye. Now I don’t have a problem driving at night, which comes in handy after driving late in the evening returning from Massachusetts after visiting with my siblings. My sister Dorothy and brother David are living back in Beverly, but not together, and my other sister lives in Arlington. I’ve lived here in South Portland, in the same house since January of 1971, in Maine from August 67 after getting out of the Navy. Because I was in the Navy during the Vietnam area, I qualify for full VA benefits. So they take care of my eyes (operations, as noted before, and vision checks, while providing glasses), ears (periodic hearing test and supplying very advanced hearing aids) and heart monitoring (providing drugs for high blood pressure, which is now spot on). Plus I have regular six month checkups for general health, cardiac, eye and three to four year ones for my hearing. I visit with Wayne Turner and his wife Sue, an hour and a half drive from here to Liberty, Maine, anywhere between four to eight week intervals. They, on the other hand, have a very active life visiting with or having visits from their children. Occasionally, during their travels to or from Massachusetts, they’ll call me and stop in the Portland area and we’ll have lunch together before they travel on. Very thoughtful of them. I have a son who lives with me and has a job that allows him to work from home. He’s not married and never will be due to being extremely over weight, which breaks my heart. I have a daughter that is married with two children, a son fourteen and a daughter almost ten. They live only seven and a half miles away. They have a very active life and are almost always doing something out the house or the area, like the Yarmouth Clam Festival yesterday. Some travel is due to their children are members of a unicycle club, that are invited to participate in parades such as Washington DC’s Cherry Blossom, Macy’s Thanksgiving parades and others in the northeast. Next year they been invited for a three day stay, family and passes included, at Universal Studios in Florida. I no longer have a dog and don't want another one, because it just breaks my heart whenever one passes away. My hair is a normal length again and I'm trying to lose some weight, which has been going well so far. I don't watch much TV, other than "Deadline, White House" regularly and sit around reading, too much to be honest. There is so much that needs to done around the house, but I can't get my ass out of the arm chair. Just a lazy sh_t at heart, when it comes to household chores, that is. T...(read more) |
