Frank X. Acevedo
Class of 1961
Navy, 4 Years
My first stop was boot camp in San Diego in May 1962.
Then Memphis Naval Air Station for Electronics training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center. Graduated as an Air Antisubmarine Warfare Technician Airman Striker.
I was later assigned to VS-22 (Air Antisubmarine Squadron 22) at Quonset Point Naval Air Station, Rhode Island. What a kick working on airborne equipment used in locating submarines (Soviet) diesel and nuclear. Loved it! During my time in VS-22, I had four C.O.s. In May of 1965 I made AX2 (E-5). In 2009 I attended the disestablishment of my VS-22 squadron in Jacksonville Florida. This was the last VS squadron in existance in the U.S. Navy. As many ex-C.O.s that were still alive and be present were there. I met one, Cdr. Vollmer, and had my picture taken with him. The last year I spoke to him was in 1965!!!
I loved my time in the Navy!
