Enlisted Oct 1968. Attended FT "A" school Great Lakes, Ill then graduated from FT "C" school Dam Neck, VA. Assignments include USS Belknap,USS Farragut, USS Harry E. Yarnell as leading firecontrolman. After his second tour of instructor duty, Master Chief Smith reported to USS Dahlgren then reported to USS Biddle as the Command Master Chief. after decommissioning USS Biddle, Master Chief Smith reported to the USS Comte de Grasse as the Command Master Chief. Master Chief Smith retired Nov 1998 and currently lives in Chesappeake, VA with his wife Stefania.

Spent last two years of active duty working as a structural mechanic on C121 aircraft. While on Guam I volunteered to be a member of the Flight Crew which traveled with the Air Crew to our Squadron detachments in Atsugi, Japan and Danang, Vietnam. We also made infrequent trips to Taiwan and Bangkok, Thailand as well as Subic Bay in the Philippines.
