About Me	Right after my high school graduation, I attended CA State Univ. of Long Beach and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona with the goal to complete a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Due to the bad economic times in 1993 that California was facing, I moved to Reno NV looking for a job with the plan to return to Southern California within six months. Six months after I arrived to Reno, I stumbled into a program called Job Corps. I was a Job Corps Student for almost 3 years, in which I acomplished a vocation in Building Maintenance, and my interest in the construction field began. I attended the University of Reno (UNR) for the last year I was a Job Corps student. My declared major was Civil Engineering. 3 months after I left Job Corps while still attending UNR, I missed the institutionalized life I left behind, and decided to join the military. I joined the Army for 8 years. The first year, I served in active duty with the plan to serve the rest of the time in the NV Army Guard. After my first year with the Army, I came back to Reno, but could not get a job that allowed me to go back to finish my Civil Engineering degree. The current job I held needed accountants, so they offered to allow me to attend school during the day if was taking accounting classes. I figured that I wouldn't be able to go to school, so I might as well take that opportunity and changed my major. Two years prior to finishing my accounting degree, the 9/11 catastrophy happened, and I was reactivated by the Army to serve in active duty. Once again, I put my degree on hold. This time I only let things go a year. After a lot of begging, the Army stationed me back in NV which allowed me to finish my accounting degree. I accomplished this while working the grave yard shifts still with the regular Army. Six months after I (finally) graduated with my accounting degree, I was fortunate to be able to start my career with the City of Reno. My first job was as a business license enforcement officer. I quickly moved up the ranks with the City, and was promoted to, my current position, Revenue Program Manager of the Revenue Division in the Finance Department. I oversee 4 separate functions (12 employees) to include the enforcement function I started in. Currently, I have bee with the City for almost 12 years, and since I like finishing what I start, while working for the City, I continued to go to UNR to finish my BS in Civil Engineering on part-time basis. I currently am 6 units away from getting that degree. After I finish my BS in Civil Engineering degree, I hope to get my Masters in a field which would allow me to teach at the university level.
