Gene, 69, died at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines Saturday, November 28, 2015. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry, IA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 2 after 1:00 p.m. with family present 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Survivors include his wife Gwen (Stark) of Perry; mother Doris Crecelius of Bedford, IA; son Chad Crecelius (Kayla) of Brighton, CO; daughters Kim Crecelius of Boulder, CO and Amy Ciccotti (Mike) of Arvada, CO; stepchildren Ronee Wagener of Ankeny, IA and Cassie Russell of Ankeny, IA; brother Gary Crecelius (Lorraine) of Ankeny, IA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gene is preceded in death by his father, Harold Crecelius. Memorials in his name may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home, Box 204, Perry, Iowa 50220.
Russell Gene Crecelius, son of Harold Crecelius and Doris (Keller) Crecelius, was born July 6, 1946, on his parents’ farm near Leon, in Decatur County, Iowa, and died Nov. 28, 2015, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was 69 years old.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. Officiating the service was Father Paul Nguyen.
Lectors were Chris Keenan and Ronee Wagener. Euchasistic Ministries were Ronee Wagener, Chis Keenan and Gwen Crecelius. Honary Pallbearers were Chad and Gary Crecelius. Ushers were Jim
Keenan and Ron Brown. Organist was Chuck Schott. Vocalist was Russell’s daughter, Kim Crecelius. Gene, as he was lovingly called, graduated from Bedford High School and attended Iowa State University.
Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973.
He owned D&G Construction with Donald Ihle in Huxley, Iowa. He worked as a purchasing agent for Tone Brothers in Ankeny for 14 years as was currently employed by Ace Hardware in Perry. Gene was a popular, very friendly employee, and for over eight years was sought out by many customers in need of his assistance.
He was an Iowa State sports fan, especially enjoying football. Gene also enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 9662.
Gene married Gwen Stark Dec. 30, 1989, in Ankeny. They made their home in Ankeny before moving to Woodward. Gene and Gwen then moved to Peery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.
Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Gwen; his mother, Doris of Bedford, Iowa; his daughters, Kim Crecelius of Boulder, Colo., and Amy (Mike) Ciccotti of Arvada, Colo.; son, Chad (Kayla) Crecelius of Brighton, Colo.; stepdaughters, Ronee Wagener (Paul Andersen) of Ankeny and Cassie Russell of Ankeny; brother, Gary (Lorraine) Crecelius of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Claire Ciccotti; Garett Crecelius; Haley Crecelius; Brandal Wagener and Daylan Wagener; the mother of his children, Karen Mabie, of Westminster, Colo.; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
