Donald Frank Schmidt
Donald Frank Schmidt Class of 1955
Army, 7 Years
CAPTAIN DONALD FRANK SCHMIDT served with the 5th SPECIAL FORCES GROUP ( AIRBORNE ) Captain DONALD FRANK SCHMIDT graduated from Central Michigan University (CMU) in June 1959 and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army through the CMU ROTC program. A former IIAC All-Conference Football Player for CMU and a respected leader on the CMU campus, DONALD FRANK SCHMIDT was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. He, later on, graduated from the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Airborne Course, The Ranger Course, and the United States Army Special Forces Qualification Course where he earned a Green Beret. Following service at Fort Hood, Texas, he was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group ( Airborne ) where he went on to serve with distinction in the Republic of Vietnam with a Special Forces 'A' Detachment. On 20 June 1966, Captain Schmidt was Killed in Action, becoming the first CMU ROTC graduate officer to lose his life in the Vietnam War. In 1998 Captain Schmidt was posthumously inducted into the CMU ROTC Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding service to the United States of America, the State of Michigan and Central Michigan University. - See more at:

InSung Oaks Lee Class of 1969
Army, 20+ Years
Armor Cavalry Officer in the Armor Branch of the US Army and also as a Military Attache for Northeast Asia-China, Japan, and Korea. Last 10 years in military worked as a Senior Intelligence Officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Assigned, tours, and travel to most of the countries in Europe, Euroasia, Far East. Stateside assignments in Fort Knox, KY: Fort Shafter, HI; Fort Riley, KS: Fort Bragg, NC: Fort Drum, NY; Fort Ord, CA. Upon retirement worked for the intelligence community in Washington, DC area.
Patrick Charles Coughlin
Patrick Charles Coughlin Class of 1967
Army, 1 Years
Private First Class Patrick Charles Coughlin, 19, son of Mrs. Theresa Coughlin of 957 N. Crawford Road and the late Joseph Coughlin, was killed April 9 while on patrol in Vietnam. He was with the 101st Airborne Division. Pfc. Coughlin was stationed at Dong Hoi where he had been for the past six weeks. He took his basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky. Then went to Ft. Polk, La., for more training. He was home recently on 30-day leave before going to Vietnam on March 4. The family learned of his death Friday. He was a 1967 Beal City High School graduate. Pfc.
