Fred’s obituary written by his sister Evelyn Bredehorst Nazaro, Class of 1973:
Manfred “Fred” Bredehorst,73, of Callaway, Florida passed away at 3:45 PM on Friday, December 3, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his forever loving family. Fred was born on April 25, 1948 in Nienburg, Niedersachsen Germany. He was the one and only favored son of the late Dietrich and Erna (Bruns) Bredehorst. He was named for the Red Baron, the WW1 flying ace Manfred von Richthofen. In 1951, Fred moved to the United States with his parents. He was raised and schooled in Flushing, NY. He was a 1965 graduate of Bayside High School in Bayside, NY, and a 1969 graduate of CW Post College in Greenvale, NY.

On January 6, 1970 he began his twenty-year military service to his country as an officer candidate in the USAF. He retired as a well-respected Captain in 1990. Manfred was a patriotic American, a proud veteran and a dedicated family man with a zest for life second to none. He was a dancer, a lover of 60’s music, the biggest NY Mets fan, a collector of baseball cards, flags of the world and mostly garden gnomes. He loved his dog Baron (deceased) and his self-appointed therapy granddog Bella.

Despite the constant trials and tribulations of health issues that life gave him, he was a fifty-year cancer survivor. He lived his life with “HOPE, and to never give up, no matter what.” It was Parkinson’s that stole him from us. There is no more pain and suffering. Fred is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 47 years, Alda Sigridur Oladottir Bredehorst; their FIVE forever loving children, Valtyr (Lena), Lovisa, Annetta, Birgitta, and Lisa-Marie; their NINE cherished grandchildren, Justin (Alicia), Alexis, Kristjan, Alex, Nick, Ashley, Tyler, Arianna, and Brianna; and their THREE precious great-grandsons, Ian, Brandr, and Leif.

Fred also leaves behind his one and only forever loving sister Evelyn “Evi” and her husband Dominick of Forks Township, Pennsylvania; extended family members; and countless great friends. Fred’s remains are to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to help find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease at www.michaeljfox.org
