Lance P. Sijan

Lance P. Sijan

Class of 1959

Lance P. Sijan, Medal of Hon or Recipient who died resisting torture as a prisoner of war in the Vietnam War should be on the Bay View High Alumni Wall of Fame. He has been recognized in Milwaukee and nationally in many ways. Bay View High School has the scholarship in his honor presented each year to the student who displays courage and leadership. A nearby park is named for him and a magnificant memorial stone in Milwaukee's Arlington Park Cemetaery commemorates him.

He was probably known to everyone who attended school with him - he played "The King in The King" and I and also had the lead in "Around the World In 80 Days. He was on the State Champion football team of 1959 and those graduates of Bay View who stayed in Milwaukee are probably aware of his posthumous Medal of Honor. Those who moved away from Milwaukee might not know about his incredible story of valor and self sacrifice. This Wall of Fame offers an excellent way to relate Lane's story to his classmates and the nation.
