Roger E. Pickering, age 69, of Baltimore, died as a result of pulmonary fibrosis Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Born July 23, 1945 in Cleveland and attended Murray Hill School, Bay Village schools, Jackson Junior College, and Ohio Northern University. He joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1969 and had a 42 year career mainly in Michigan and Ohio. He formerly lived in Saint Joseph and Grosse Pointe, Michigan. At the time of his retirement in 2011, he had been an IRS Appeals Officer in Columbus for 24 years and lived near Pickerington. He was a member of the Reed Organ Society, Society of Automotive Historians, Grosse Pointe Historical Society, National Automotive History Collection, and a life member of the Classic Car Club in America. In the latter organization he sponsored the Lomakov Automobile Museum of Moscow, Russia. Locally he had been treasurer of the Conductor's Club of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and had once been named Volunteer of the Year by the symphony. He is survived by his wife, Elena; daughter, Elizabeth; and three siblings, Barb Money of Newark, OH, Jane Nickel of Palm Bay, FL, and Major James Pickering of Shiloh, IL; plus their spouses and seven nieces and nephews.
