About Me | I remember when I was a little girl and things didn't go the way I thought they should; I would say "but that's not fair!". My Mom would always give the same reply. "Life's not fair, Carrie Ann. Get used to it." I hated when she said that. She was right though, and I have discovered over the years that I am glad that life isn't fair. I have been through some seriously hard times in my life because life isn't fair; and those times have made me strong. I have worked shit jobs for angry, lying bosses. I have scraped pennies together to buy a gallon of gas to get to work. I have gone to school during the day and worked at night getting a total of 12 hours of sleep a week. I have been through a terrible and violent marriage followed by and ugly and over-dramatic divorce. I have lost several family members to cancer way too early in life, including my Mother, who was my closest ally and greatest inspiration. I have been a single working mother of two. I have scraped and clawed my way out of the pit of poverty with my own blood, sweat, tears, and grim determination. No, Life is most definitely NOT fair. GOOD! Because of the trials I have passed, I have the deepest appreciation for what I have earned. I have two boys who will grow up knowing that if they work hard, they will get what they want; and if they whine, they'll get nothing but leftovers and useless pity. I have a Husband who is the embodiment of what a man should be. I am self supporting, self sufficient, and self motivated. I am proud of what I have accomplished, despite the odds and obstacles. Yes, Mom, you were right. Life is not fair. I got used to it. I learned to work for and fight for what was important to me and I thank you for teaching me that lesson. Fair makes you weak..the pain you feel because of unfairness in life ...(read more) |
