Having graduated from College High and Oklahoma State University in 1965 and 1969 respectively, I moved to Alaska where I raised 3 children, built a log home in Kaltag, Alaska where I lived and taught for 8 years. I thoroughly enjoyed this sojourn while experiencing the Koyukon Athabaskan culture. I was fortunate to be befriended by many an elder who shared their fascinating stories of life before contact They grew up in families who transitioned from place to place in the fall, winter, summer and spring hunting, trapping, fishing and harvesting.
As they shared their knowledge of subsisting from the land, I learned to trap fur bearing animals, hunt for moose and migratory birds, cut house logs and build a home, and to catch and preserve salmon, lingcod or burnout, whitefish, trout and grayling. These were joyful and exciting times.
I later served as a principal in Nulato, Hughes and Barrow and for a decade I worked in the district office as a director and superintendent.
Upon retirement from public education I traveled extensively in the Pacific rim as the assistant director of an international distance education program. Subsequent to a that, I was the Director of Educational programs for the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage.
Today my lovely wife and I are enjoying or families including 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
We travel extensively throughout the world and I golf, hike, and fish.
Life has been as is good to us. For the we are sincerely grateful.
