He was one of Aviations Track and Field stars. He enjoyed the sport immensely and likely ran in every race known in the city.

I learned of Jim's passing while I too was in Vietnam. I was walking down the ramp to my aircraft when I heard someone yell my name. I turned to see a fellow graduate. He told me of Jimmie's passing when Jimmy was in Ia Drang Valley. I was very upset by the news, but we all seemed to know that that could be our fate. Be at peace James we will all remember you.
