About Sonya Kay Coombes Hesterly, 56 years, passed to heaven on February 10, 2009 at her home in Mansfield, MO. Sonya was born December 11, 1952 in Chandler, OK to Harold and Violet (Charmasson) Coombes. She graduated from Ava High School.

Sonya and Larry Hesterly were united in marriage on Dec. 31, 1970 in her parents home, in Ava, MO and to this union two children were born.

Sonya was a member of the Mansfield First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, sang in the church choir, and was active in their missionary programs. Sonya was an avid cross-stitcher, loved to travel, and had recently taken up scrapbooking. She worked for many years as an office manager. The joy of her life was her family and her four grandchildren.

Sonya was preceded in death by her parents, Harold H. Coombes & Violet "Vi" Louise (Charmasson) Woods, her dad, Bob Woods, a brother Jim Coombes and a brother-in-law, Ronny Durham.

Sonya is survived by husband, Larry Hesterly, Mansfield, MO, two children and their spouses, Scott & Mindy Hesterly, Republic, MO and Shelby & Chris Jenkins,Grand Rapids, MI, four grandchildren, Gavynn Rae & Riley Cole Hesterly, Seth Preston & Noah Bradley Jenkins, two sisters, Patti Durham Culbreth & husband Cecil and Brenda Garrett and husband, Rod all of Springfield, MO, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great aunts and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Sonya will be Friday, February 13, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Mansfield First Baptist Church with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Eakins. Memorials may be made to Mansfield First Baptist Church Building Fund
