| About Me | Former screenwriter/film director who over a 27-year career in Hollywood wrote 23 scripts of which I sold or optioned nine of them. Also directed and/or produced five feature films, one of which, Only Once in a Lifetime, premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and later was selected as an Official U.S. Entry at the Deauville Film Festival in France. The movie was one of the first films about the Mexican-American experience and was selected the "Hispanic Film of the Year" by two national magazines in the United States. In 1987, I semi-retired to Mexico, my mother’s country of origin, where I began to write novels, as well as more screenplays. In 1988, I co-founded the Ajijic Writers’ Group, which is today the longest-running writers’ group for ex-pats in the world. I have published seven novels (The Dark Side of the Dream, Breaking Even, Only Once in a Lifetime, The Stuff of Dreams, Hollywood & Vine, Against All Odds and Whereabouts Unknown) and two of my more recent screenplays have won top awards at film festivals in Mexico. For the past 15 years, I have been the Editor-in-Chief of El Ojo del Lago (www.chapala.com), the most widely-read monthly English-language magazine in Mexico.
