About Me	After high school, I graduated from Mount Union College with a BS in Biology in 1972. I was married to Marilynn Gay from Bedford in 1970. We will celebrate our 38th anniversary in September. I then went on to do a Ph.D in Pharmacology at the Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1976. During my graduate work, we had two sons, Edward in 1974 and Christian in 1976. I stayed at Cornell for a postdoctoral fellowship until the end of 1977 when Marilynn, our sons and I moved back to Ohio when I became an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the newly created Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown. I stayed there for nearly 5 years, long enough to be promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, and then accepted a research scientist position with The Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company in Kalamazoo, MI where I lead a team that was focused on the discovery of drugs for spinal cord and brain injury and stroke. After 15 years at Upjohn, I moved to Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research in Ann Arbor, MI in 1998. After two years there, we were taken over by Pfizer. Over the next two years, I was Senior Director of the Neurodegeneration Therapeutic Area Team. In 2002, unhappy with the directions Pfizer was going, I returned to academia at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, KY where I am Director of the UK Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Center.
