About	Douglas Doolittle Obituary Douglas Leon Doolittle April 29, 1950 February 24, 2024 Sierra Vista-Douglas L. Doolittle, 73, of Sierra Vista died Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Banner University Medical Center, Tucson. Douglas, son of the late Kenneth L. and Ethelyn M. (Smith) Doolittle was born in Rome, New York on April 29, 1950. He was raised in Worcester, MA and graduated from Auburn High School. He went on to further his education while stationed in Fulda, Germany, at University of Maryland. Douglas served his country with the United States Army for 20 years attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was stationed in Ft. Polk, LA; Ft. Ord, CA, and Ft Rucker, AL where he had 3 different tours. Also, Douglas did a tour in Korea, 2 tours in Germany, including Fulda and Wiesbaden, He retired from the Army on March 2000. But Douglas wasn’t done working yet, he went back to Mannheim, Germany. He worked as an ANSF technician, which was a Depot level maintenance facility for 2 years. Then back to Rucker, AL as part of the ATCOM (air traffic control command) evaluation team until 2004. In October 2004 he was offered a job he couldn’t refuse and so he moved to Arizona, started working at Libby Army Airfield, of Ft. Huachuca, working as lead technician. He was also an SME (subject matter expert), on multiple ATC systems throughout his career, and was the go-to person for equipment problems. He retired, again, after 19 years, on March 31, 2019. He has resided in Sierra Vista for almost 20 years. Doug enjoyed cars, cruising, camping in the Alps, and Redwood trees, a good German meal, and beer. He was a New England Patriots fan, through thick and thin. Most of all Doug enjoyed spending time with his Family and Friends! In addition to Douglas’s parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Bernard (Bud) Northridge, a brother-in-law Mike Proko, and a sister-in-law Kerry Northridge. Douglas is survived by his wife of almost 31 years, Karen (Carrier) Doolittle; two sons, Kenneth L. Doolittle, (Alicia), and Jeremy W. Doolittle, (Seng); a brother, James Northridge; four sisters, Penny Proko, Patricia Lindberg, (Rick), Paula Northridge, and Ruth Cormier, (Gary); 5 granddaughters, Eve, Katy, Brittney, Ashley, and Hailey. Doug is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Douglas will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 South Highway 92, Sierra Vista. A visiting hour will precede the service on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of the service at 10:00 am. Rites of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista.
