Wayne Pierce passed away on August 20, 2008.

Wayne was born in Atascadero, California on March 8, 1942 and attended both Atascadero Elementary (1947-1956) and Atascadero Union High School (1956-1960) where he was president of his senior class and a baseball and basketball standout. Wayne then attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Hoping to become a forest ranger, he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Humboldt State. He attended graduate school at Washington State University, earning a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Plant Physiology. He was considered a pioneer in ion transport research. Wayne began his teaching career at Stanislaus State in 1971 and he taught there for 35 years serving as Chairman of the Biology Dept. for nine of those years.

Wayne will be dearly missed my all of us that had the privilege of knowing him.
