About James Dwight Kiplinger, 82,

James Dwight Kiplinger, 82, of Ashland died Friday, March 4, 2011, at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Fla.

Born July 27, 1928, in Polk, he was the son of Ray LaVerne and Maggie (née Herr) Kiplinger.

A 1946 graduate of Ashland High School, Jim went to Oberlin Business School. He worked in the finance department at F.E. Myers, retiring in 1990, and also worked with Linn Enterprises, helping out with the family business serving gyros at area county fairs for more than 35 years.

Jim was a member of AARP and First Christian Church, serving as a deacon for a number of years. He also worked with youth groups, taught Sunday school and served as clerk of the church board. Jim enjoyed watching sports, especially local sporting events, and traveling with his wife, Betty, after retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane (née Richard) Kiplinger, whom he married Sept. 19, 1948; daughter, Molly (Doug) Riley of Ashland; son, Gary (Sherri) Kiplinger of Mansfield; and grandchildren, Morgan Riley and Krista and Kreig Kiplinger.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Kiplinger; and sisters, Flo Wiley and Mary Jane Linn.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave.

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at First Christian Church, 1425 King Road, Ashland, conducted by the Rev. John C. O'Hara. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland YMCA, 207 Miller St., Ashland or First Christian Church.
