About Robert "Bob" Rex Harpster, 81, soldier, salesman, farmer

INDIANAPOLIS -- Robert "Bob" Rex Harpster, 81, of Indianapolis passed away Dec. 11, 2010.

He was born in Ashland on Sept. 22, 1929, to John and Helen Harpster and returned to Ashland every deer hunting season to join his brothers, nephews and friends at deer camp.

Bob was a proud alumnus of Ohio State University. He was an active member of Alpha Gamma Rho and Future Farmers of America. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob was a born salesman and loved farming. He combined his career ambitions and retired in 1991 from a long and distinguished sales career with Ford New Holland in Warsaw, Ind.

Following Bob's retirement, he and his wife, Jean Ann Weber, moved to Sebring, Fla., where he continued to be a competitive bridge player and spent many a day on the Sun'n Lakes Golf courses.

Due to declining health, Bob and his wife of 53 years, moved to Brookdale Senior Living to be near their surviving son, Steve Harpster, and daughter-in-law, Babette; and their one and only grandson, Jack Harpster.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Lynn Harpster Smith; sister, Marge Galloway; and brother, Gerald "Mose" Harpster.

He is survived by his sister, Jean Endsley; longtime sister-in-law, Beulah Harpster; and brothers, Donald, Carlton "Pug" and Russell Harpster.

A private service will be for the family and a celebration of Bob's life will be at a later date at Bob's childhood church.
