About | Elizabeth Ann Emery, age 50 died peacefully but unexpectedly from natural causes at her home April 5, 2012. She was born on July 7, 1961 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Joan Koehler Dallas (Gordon), and William M. Emery, M.D. (Karen), all of Ashland, Ohio. Beth graduated from Ashland High School in 1979, and North Carolina State University in 1983 with a BS. Her Master’s degree was from The Ohio State University. She wasfinalizing her doctorate in Sports Humanities from Ohio State. She is survived by brothers, William K. Emery (Susan) whose children are Will, Ted, and George, and Robert P. Emery (Lesley) whose children are Nicholas, Katurah, Elijah, and Peter Brett. After her college graduation Beth was a Land Development Planner in North Carolina and California. When she moved back to Ohio she worked for an employment service where she was so skilled that she was in great demand by many different and varied companies, working even for AMERIFLORA, meeting new friends all over Columbus. Beth started at Mills-James Productions more than 19 years ago, working her way up to a highly valued Producer/Director. Beth was a world class swimmer. Many hours were spent in volunteering support for the undergraduate and Master’s swimming programs at OSU. Beth studied under full athletic scholarship at NC State and was a 19-time AIAW and NCAA Division I All American in women’s swimming, 1980-83. She was a 3-Time Masters Swimming World Record Holder in 2002. Beth was inducted into the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 and was a strong supporter of the Ashland YMCA. Beth held many honors, including: the Regional ADDY Award for OhioHealth Foundation fundraising video, 2003, Peer Employee of the Year Award, Creative Department, Mills James Productions, 2000, 2002, 2003, Inductee, Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary “Top 50” Athletics Team, 2002, Willis Casey Award as North Carolina State University Student-Athlete of the Year, 1983, Member, United States National Swimming Team, 1983, Gold Medalist, World University Games Swimming Team, 1983, Team Captain, North Carolina State University Women’s Swimming, 1982, 1983, Most Valuable Player, NC State University Women’s Swimming, 1982, 1983. Beth was exceedingly modest and exceptionally bright in intelligence and personality. She loved practical jokes. Motorcycling, the love of animals (her cat, Dil), and her niece’s and nephews’ activities and athletic endeavors were some of her passions. Family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland, OH 44805, (419) 289-2126. Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Sanford Mitchell at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13, also at Trinity Lutheran Church, reception to follow.
