Classmate Memories

Nate was my cousin by blood, but in every way that truly matters, he was my brother. We were the same age, same grade, raised in the same town—and from the beginning, we were each other’s person. There was never a time in my life that Nate wasn’t a part of. We shared everything: secrets no one else knew, long talks almost every day, laughter, fights, forgiveness, and a bond that could never be broken.

We grew up side by side, inseparable. Our childhood was filled with memories that still make me laugh—weekends at Jeffers, chaos at the Party House, getting hopelessly lost on the way to the airport when the Army sent him to Alaska (thanks, Yahoo Maps), and all the times we played Mauw with Troy or fought over turns on the Nintendo. We walked miles just to find something to do, played pranks, drank beer over endless games of 3-man, and somehow made it through nights that probably should’ve gone all wrong.

Nate was stubborn—honest to a fault—but he was real. He was loyal, always in your corner, and always willing to fight the good fight for the people he loved. No matter the situation, even when life handed him the short end of the stick, he got back up, took it on the chin, and kept going. That’s just who he was.

Losing him is devastating. After already losing Troy, this feels like another piece of my soul has gone missing. But I find comfort in the thought that maybe the two of them are together again—fishing on a quiet riverbank or racking up the balls for another game of pool. I hope Nate’s soul is finally at peace, and glad that Troy has his pool/fishing partner back.
I will never forget you Nate
Love you always
Until we meet again, Cuz
